About the Collective
Dear Reader,
Hillareads Collective is what happens when hobbies take over and transform into something much more meaningful.
As a child, I watched my mother grip her crochet hook and create blankets, cardigans, and dish towels from tiny balls of yarn.
I didn't get it.
Instead, I lived in a world of books. My creations were intangible, but vivid.
Fast-forward to 2024. After losing two family members in less than two years, I knew I needed a way to keep my hands busy. Ideally, something that prevented endless scrolling or mindless consumption of items that would ultimately end up in a landfill overseas.
I asked my mom if I could borrow some of her extra crochet hooks and got to work.
I created my first earbud pouch in July 2024, and then I made a pouch for my beloved Boox Palma.
Don't say it, it's cliché.
I was completely hooked.
I hope you enjoy my creations as much as I've enjoyed making them.
Why Hillareads Collective?
Hillareads Collective grew out of this journey. I tried to become a reading YouTuber and ran out of things to say. But my love for books and the desire to bring meaningful creations to life remained.
Every piece is crafted with care, blending practicality and creativity while aiming to leave a smaller footprint on the planet.
I don't want to stop at making and selling my creations. I know many creative people and want to uplift their creations, too.
Impact and Goals
Hillareads Collective is an opportunity to give back. In addition to supporting local artisans, I'm committed to donating 10% of my annual revenue to Class C libraries in Indiana, which serve 10,000 people or fewer. Libraries hold a special place in my heart, and I want to help keep them accessible beyond the book-banning and defunding nonsense they've encountered in recent years.
